We are super excited to announce our first-ever overseas photography workshop in New York City – and we’d love you to join us!
From the 9th – 13th October 2023 iPhotography will be in the Big Apple hosting a 5-day workshop on street and urban photography. Whether you’re a beginner photographer or an experienced shooter, this is a unique opportunity to spend quality 1-2-1 time with a professional photography tutor and a small group of like-minded people.
Together, we’ll be exploring the famous streets of New York, surrounded by iconic views that are ripe for capturing spectacular images.
Formerly known as New Amsterdam to early Dutch settlers, New York was renamed in the 17th Century and quickly grew to become one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the world.
If you’ve never been to New York you’re in for a treat. We’ve all seen the iconic landmarks and hotspots in films, books and on TV – now it’s your turn to experience it for real!
This iPhotography workshop will guide you through many of the familiar sites such as Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, Wall Street, Chinatown, 5th Avenue and many more.
Together, we’ll absorb the magnificence of those iconic skyscrapers, we’ll lose ourselves in the beauty of Manhattan’s green spaces (while capturing their spectacular fall colors), and we’ll meander through famous streets with cameras at the ready.
Exact details of the daily workshop routes will be included in a confirmation email when you reserve your spot.
I’m going to be your tutor for this incredible New York Photography workshop. I’ve been teaching photographers for many years, both online and offline. I’m so excited to be coming to the USA so that I can help you too!
During this workshop I’ll be on hand every day to help you set up the perfect shots. I’ll show you how to use the lighting and surroundings and the settings you need to capture shots you’ll be proud of.
Each day we’ll have a route planned to ensure you get lots of opportunities to shoot street, urban, architectural, nature and documentary-style photos. No two days will be the same!
I’ll give you as much (or as little) assistance as you want. We can chat about camera settings, compositions, how to think creatively, and really squeeze the most out of our time together, and every location we visit.
It’s going to be a busy but highly productive 5-days! We’ll be walking all over Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn – so pack light and bring your walking shoes! I cannot wait to meet you.
DURATION: Full Day 10am-4pm

The daily exact route, meeting point and times will be emailed to you upon booking. Each day’s workshop will run from approximately 10am-4pm.
Follow up emails will be sent closer to the workshop date to keep you informed, excited and update you if anything changes.
You’ll be given a contact phone number for your workshop tutor Stephen Walton to keep in touch.
Here is outline for each day’s photo walk route;
The booking fee for this workshop includes a full day (6hrs) of photography tutoring and at least one virtual editing session. The workshop does not include the following.
This is an on-foot photography workshop, covering many miles across the peninsula of Manhattan – so pack light! We may need to jump on a subway once or twice for moving between certain locations. Your camera bag will be on your back all day, so only bring the camera(s) and lenses that you know you’ll use each day.
PDF itinerary sheets will be sent to you for each day of the workshop in advance, to outline the sites you’ll see and recommended camera equipment.
Anyone! Absolutely anyone!
I won’t assume any prior knowledge or photography experience on this workshop. And you don’t need to know New York either. We’ll take it step-by-step, enjoy the sites and learn as you go.
All I ask is that you bring passion and interest in photography. The rest I can help you with. This is a great opportunity if you’re a photographer who hasn’t picked up their camera for a while, and is looking to try something new, exciting and creative to reignite your passion!
Ideally, any type of DSLR or Mirrorless camera will be enough to best capture the range of shots we’re planning. You might find that only bringing a compact camera or smartphone might limit the creative opportunities that we’ll find at different locations.
Most of the time we’ll be on foot. Routes have been carefully planned to be accessible while avoiding lots of steep inclines where possible.
This will not be a suitable workshop for photographers with cardiac/respiratory issues who struggle with long walks (2-3 miles+), or suffer with more permanent mobility issues. Click here if you want to ask Stephen a question regarding mobility before booking.
Unfortunately, due to insurance reasons, each booking is only for one person. We are happy for you to bring a partner, carer or friend along only for health/assistance reasons. We ask they don’t actively participate in the workshop with their own cameras. Partners, carers or friends won’t be catered for at lunchtimes.
We advise that pets are left at home too, as they can be a distraction when shooting, and other photographers may be allergic. But give them a tummy rub before you leave!
Along with Stephen, you’ll get to meet other wonderful members of the iPhotography community! Since iPhotography is primarily an online platform, taking photography off-line and meeting you in person is a special event, and it’s a great chance to meet the photographers you see in the gallery and form stronger relationships with.
You can ask questions and get instant answers from your group as well as advice from your tutor about how to improve your street and urban photography step-by-step.
The cost of the workshop is non-refundable once booked and paid for. In the highly unlikely event this workshop is cancelled by iPhotography you will be issued with a 100% refund.
If you are unable to join the workshop, after booking, we will attempt to resell your place on your behalf. A refund will only be issued if we manage to successfully resell your place.
Please read the full terms & conditions of iPhotography live events here before booking. By booking onto an iPhotography live event (photo walk or workshop) you are agreeing to these terms.
If you’ve got any other questions that haven’t already been answered, please email your workshop tutor Stephen on [email protected]
Times: 10am – 4pm (each day)
Food: Light lunch included per day
Included in this workshop are two private 90-minute online editing sessions with your group and tutor.
The dates for these online classes will be arranged after the event and be hosted via Zoom. You can show off your shots, get specific editing tips, along with feedback from your tutor and fellow attendees.
This is an incredible opportunity to spend 1-on-1 time with an experienced iPhotography instructor and a small, passionate group of fellow photographers. It’s a chance to learn new skills, meet new people, and create special lifelong memories – all while capturing spectacular shots in one of the most exciting cities in the world.
We urge you to book now to avoid disappointment. Spaces are limited to just 5 people so that we can give maximum time to everyone.
Neil – We need to add in a drop-down menu of options of which day they’d like to attend and someway they can do 2, 3 or 4 days instead.
Are you happy with the suggested prices too?
Plus we need to capture name/address/mobile/email on the payment form and can a copy of booking go to the tutor inbox so I can keep track too?
