If you’re looking to improve your portrait photography in a comfortable and private setting, this workshop is for you.
Hosted at the incredible Splash Point Studios in North Wales this full-day portrait workshop is led by Stephen Walton, iPhotography Tutor and professional portrait photographer with years of experience to help you to improve your images.
Our portrait photography workshop is hosted at Splash Point Studios in the heart of North Wales. It is a private residence and an eclectic home with pro studio space with magnificent neon walls, to a country-manor-styled living space with chesterfield suites and parquet flooring. Oh, and there’s a swimming pool too!
It’s a hidden gem in the world of photography studios, an all-in-one space to practise your portrait photography with a close-knit group of like-minded photographers.
You’ll gain the experience of working with live models to perfect your lighting (ambient and flash), camera settings, posing and storytelling with a tutor right by your side.
This is a small-group workshop where you’ll be photographing models alongside other shooters in a range of settings, outfits and lighting scenarios from ambient to flash. All lighting equipment and cables will be provided for you.
Further details of the workshop will be included in a confirmation email when you reserve your spot.
You’ll be in the trusted hands of iPhotography Tutor Stephen Walton for this portrait photography workshop.
Across the day Stephen will be on hand to help you set up poses and shots, show you how to master lighting as well as direct models to get the shots you really want.
Stephen isn’t only a tutor but also has over 10 years of daily experience running a high-end family photography studio. From picking out the best outfits, and accessories to assisting you with setting your shot, he’ll be right on hand.
Or, if you’re feeling confident you can go it alone and shoot without guidance. Either way, this full-day portrait photography workshop will cover everything you need for when you next take portraits, indoors and outdoors.

These are the topics we’ll cover during the workshop;
Depending upon the group size, we have two models who will be starring in our portrait photography workshop. Natasha and Ellen, who you may have seen appear on iPhotography previously bring a wealth of experience to help new portrait photographers feel at ease.
You can offer them directions, poses, outfit suggestions or let them take charge until you feel confident. If all spaces are not filled, only one model may be present.

Included in your booking fee is also a light lunch (sandwiches, crisps, snacks etc) and drinks.
If you have any allergy or food intolerances, please let your tutor know in advance via email [email protected]
A follow-up virtual editing session is also included in this workshop. The session will take place at a date after the workshop via Zoom. You’ll be able to show your shots to the rest of the group, watch editing tips and get feedback on your images.
Given the space at the studio we ask that you don’t bring lots of bags and equipment. Your regular camera and a couple of lenses will be enough. All lenses under 200mm will be more than adequate for the workshop.
Remember to fully charge your batteries and pack spare memory cards as this is a full day of photography.
Make sure you bring your tripod and lens filters just in case you fancy getting creative later on. There’s no need to bring extra lighting equipment. Footwear is not permitted in the studio, so bring clean soled slippers unless you’re happy to work in socks! Sensible footwear is advised around the pool area.
This portrait photography workshop is perfect for beginners who want to start taking better photos of their friends and family.
By starting off with learning the basics of how to get a good exposure and building towards using lighting creatively with flattering poses, the lessons you’ll learn on this workshop will serve you in any instance of taking a portrait, indoors and outdoors!
It’s also a great workshop if you’re a photographer who hasn’t picked up their camera for a while and is looking to try something new, exciting and creative.
Your workshop instructor, Stephen, will assume no prior experience and will take you carefully through each of the steps in his process from setting up lighting, to camera settings and posing your model.
Ideally, any type of DSLR or Mirrorless camera will be enough to cover the teachings of this workshop. A camera with an electronic connection hotshoe and flash sync ports will be needed if you want to shoot with the studio strobe units (but this is not mandatory).
While 50mm and 85mm prime lenses are very popular in portrait photography, bring along what you have already and we’ll show you how to make the most of your current camera kit.
Paid public parking is available opposite the studio. Further details will be given in your confirmation email after booking.
Unfortunately due to the size of the studio each booking is only for one person. We cannot allow extra friends or partners to attend the workshop just to watch.
While an online course will teach you so much about the art of portrait photography, there’s an extra dimension of training to discover when working with a live model.
You’ll learn even more when taking shots for real in a professional studio alongside your tutor and other photographers.
You can ask questions and get instant answers from your group as well as advice from your tutor about how to improve your portraits step-by-step.
The cost of the workshop becomes non-refundable 30 days before the workshop date. In the unlikely event this workshop is cancelled by iPhotography you will be issued with a 100% refund.
If you are unable to attend the workshop up to 31 days before the event date we will issue a full refund.
If you’ve got any other questions that haven’t already been answered, please email your workshop instructor Stephen on [email protected]
