Puffins & Lighthouses on Anglesey

Tuesday 11th June 2024

Fancy a day on the wild coast of Anglesey photographing beautiful lighthouses and Puffins? Then join our Anglesey wildlife photography walk.

This North West Wales photo walk is led by Stephen Walton, iPhotography’s Head Tutor, a professional photographer with years of experience to help you to improve your photos.

What's the Route?

This South Stack photo walk is split up into two parts. You’ll begin the day at South Stack RSPB reserve keeping your camera keenly trained on the nesting Puffins before a short walk up to the iconic South Stack Lighthouse.

You’ll be able to practise your landscape photography with these amazing coastal views looking out to the Irish Sea.

After a short break, we’ll take a 15 minute drive (you will need your own transport) to Parc Gwledig Morglawdd Caergybi / Breakwater Country Park for a 1 mile walk through the rural countryside to the lesser-known North Stack Lighthouse.

Full details of the route will be included in a confirmation email when you reserve your spot.

What Do I Need to Bring Along?

It doesn’t matter what camera you have. During the photo walk, your tutor can show you what settings to use and when to make the most of a moment. It’s a good idea to pack light with room for snacks and water.

Bring along a couple of memory cards and a spare battery too. It’s up to you if you want to take your tripod and lens filters, simply consider the location and the weather on the day.

For the purposes of this walk, we’d recommend a mixture of long and short focal lengths. Telephoto or zoom lenses over 300mm will be useful for the wildlife photography and shorter lenses (50mm or shorter) will be best for the landscape photography.

How Long Does a Photo Walk Last?

Our Anglesey adventure should take approximately 6 hours based on our locations (subject to slight changes).

Along the walk, you can chat to fellow photographers and find out a little more about what they enjoy shooting. It’s a great way of making photo friends if you normally shoot alone.

You’ll also have opportunities to photograph landmarks such as Elin’s Tower near the RSPB reserve.

We might also spot wild Guillemots, Razorbills and rare Chough birds on our walk.

This walk will not be accessing South Stack Lighthouse island itself.
