Community Day Out at the RAF Museum

Tuesday 16th July 2024

We’re happy to announce a special Community Day at the RAF Museum Midlands where you can spend time catching up with iPhotography members, making new friends, and of course, shooting Messerschmitts, Hawker Harriers, Cygnets, Vulcans, Spitfires and more.

This Community Day Out at the museum visit is led by Stephen Walton, iPhotography’s Head Tutor, a professional photographer with nearly 20 years of experience who’ll be around to help you with any camera queries.

ANNOUNCEMENT!

With thanks to iPhotography member Carol Fourie, we have now secured an exclusive and private tour of a Nimrod R1 aircraft as part of our photo walk. The RAF museum have also proposed a photography competition on the day with a chance to have your images displayed at the museum.

What Do I Need to Bring Along?

It doesn’t matter what camera equipment you have. During the photo walk, your tutor can show you what settings to use and when to make the most of a moment. It’s a good idea to pack light with room for snacks and water.

Bring along a couple of memory cards and a spare battery too. It’s up to you if you want to take your tripod and lens filters, simply consider the location and the weather on the day.

Though most of the exhibitions are indoors, some larger jets and planes we’ll visit are outdoors.

There is a cafe on-site as well as bathroom facilities with accessibility.

How Long Does a Photo Walk Last?

Our visit to the RAF Museum Midlands should last approximately 5 hours.

During the day, you can chat to fellow photographers and find out a little more about what they enjoy shooting. It’s a great way of making photo friends if you normally shoot alone.

It’s a casual day out with no heavy coaching or technical photography lessons – instead it’s a leisurely stroll through the museum taking photos and having a catch up!
